Orso Hotels, France

Design-led boutique hotels across Paris, each with their own character and style

Based in Paris and founded in 2020 by Dutch-French couple Anouk and Louis Solanet, Orso Hotels collaborate with some of France’s most talented interior designers on properties set in the capital’s most interesting neighbourhoods. The couple used to live near Hotel Rochechouart and always wondered if they could revive its art deco spirit of the “Années folles” (Roaring 20s) while adding a contemporary spin. There are seven Orso Hotels in total across Paris including Hotel Rochechouart, Hotel Wallace, Hotel Doisy, Hotel Ami, Hotel Cabane, Hotel Leopold and more recently, Hotel Orphée. While each boutique property has its own personality, style and identity, all of them come with a high level of service and interior design décor, together with a family spirit. Orso is also bars, a restaurant, wellness areas, rooftops…Places for all to live, at any time of day. www.orsohotels.com

Opened in the atmospheric Pigalle district as The Charleston in 1929, within sight of the Sacré Coeur, Hotel Rochechouart has a colourful history with a soundtrack that runs from Jazz Age dance tunes and Creole beguine to tango and French pop. Toasted by the intellectual and creative names of the day – from Maurice Chevalier to Josephine Baker – it was revived and reimagined by the Orso Hotels group, working with Festen interior design, before reopening as Hotel Rochechouart in October 2020.

With a destination restaurant serving imaginative takes on French classics, a rooftop bar open late for cocktails and cinematic views over Paris, plus a newly opened oyster bar, Citron et Huîtres, and a legendary nightclub with a speakeasy vibe called Le Mikado, this is a hotel with one foot in the flamboyant past and one foot making bold moves in the present.
